La Habra Spring Citrus Fair

by Jason Cecil on 04/11/11

Bring the entire family out this coming Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday (4/15, 16 &17) for the 2011 La Habra Spring Citrus Fair.  There will be rides, entertainment, food and fun for everyone, all located at La Habra Blvd. around the Library.

Help for Brain Injured CHildren, Inc. will have an Informational Booth, so please stop by and say, "Hello" to one of our fantastic staff members.  While you're at it, be sure to get a deliciously sweet treat from the CANDYLICIOUS booth (known for their candy apples); a portion of their proceeds will be donated directly to our children and programs!

See you there!!

Stay Connected with Us!

by Jason Cecil on 03/25/11

Dear Supporters,

I hope this update finds you and your loved ones doing well.  In an effort to keep you "connected" and up-to-date with everything happening here at HBIC, as well as with the Cleta Harder Developmental School, I wanted to make you aware that there are three (3) internet resources and one (1) paper resource you can utilize:

1. www.hbic.org - This is our all-inclusive website (as you already know) with information on HBIC, the Developmental Day School Program "The Cleta Harder School," and upcoming events.  You will find contact information, videos and pictures, so come back here at least once per week.

2. Hbic Chds - This is our NAME so you can be our "friend" on Facebook!  Get frequent updates, announcements, video posts and more.  Information is often posted here before it gets out anywhere else; be in the know.

3. HBICCHDS - This is us on Twitter!  Find out what BIG events might be developing or coming up; or maybe just a 'Thought for the Day."  With a Smart Phone you can be alerted on-the-spot.

4. Be sure you are on our mailing list.  Have you received our 'Save the Date' card?  What about our most recent Newsletter?  If not, call us and get on our mailing list.  While you're at it, provide us with your email and receive these important & informational notices even faster.....and help us GO GREEN!

As a parent and/or supporter it is important for you to be aware of the happenings that involve your child, family and interests.  We want to do everything we can to make obtaining that knowledge as easy as possible.

If you should have any questions please contact us at 562-694-5655 ext. 103, or go to the CONTACT US page on this website and send an email.

First Ever Pancake Breakfast - SUCCESS!

by Jason Cecil on 02/28/11

This past Saturday, February 26, was our first ever Pancake Breakfast....and it was FANTASTIC!  Guests were greeted & welcomed at the door by our smiling HBIC staff.  Everyone enjoyed 2 Pancakes, Eggs, Sausage and Juice or Coffee, as well as great conversation and some edutainment regarding HBIC's programs, students and staff.  We got to see some very familiar faces as well as some brand new ones!  The breakfast was even announced at the morning briefing of the La Habra Police Dept., so we were lucky enough to enjoy the company of several of our finest officers.

A great big, "Thank You" to the La Habra Host Lions Club who provided the cooking services and their grilling expertise.  Also, thank you to our own HBIC staff and family members:  Sylvia Conde, Jennifer Walls, Sara Moskowitz, DeAnna Rungo, Maria & Jacqueline Fischer, Eric Larson, and Jacqueline Carlin.  You all set a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere and made this event as smooth as possible.

Finally, a greatly appreciated, "Thank you" to Danny & Ofelia Hanson for sponsoring the event.  Your continued generosity and sense of community support never ceases to amaze us all.  You are AMAZING!

We hope that everyone enjoyed the morning and we look forward to seeing you all at our next breakfast!

Some students from the Freemont College, School of Massage Therapy visited recently to gain some valuable hands-on experiences with our students, as part of their course module of "Massage for Special Populations."  Not only did the the college students get to work on almost all of the HBIC & Cleta Harder School students, but our children & young adults received all of the benefits of massage, including increased blood flow, increased oxygen to the brain, relaxation, loosening of the muscles, and social interaction.
Thank you to all of the Freemont College student and their Instructor Mrs. Allison for sharing their expertise with us.  We hope to see you many, MANY more times!
